For Operators

You're the person pressing GO during the show.

This is a one-pager. Read it. Print it. Tape it to the side of the operator station.

Before the show

  1. Power on your tablet. Connect to the show's Wi-Fi if you aren't already.
  2. Open the dashboard URL in the browser:
    http://[runtime-ip]:7880/

Your venue tech should have given you the actual URL. Bookmark it.
  3. Check the connection dot in the top right of the dashboard. Green means you're connected to Runtime. Red means call your tech.
  4. The TC clock should read 00:00:00.00. The state badge should say STOPPED.
  5. The cue list should be visible. The first cue should be highlighted with an amber bar on the left. That's the cue that will fire when you press GO.

If any of those aren't right, find your tech before the show starts.

During the show

One button: GO

Each cue advances when you press the big green GO button. After firing, the next cue automatically becomes highlighted.

You can also press Spacebar on a connected keyboard.

Wrong cue fired? Press BACK.

The amber ◀ BACK button steps the pointer back one cue. It does NOT undo the cue that just fired (the lights already changed; the door already opened) — it only moves the pointer.

Need to stop everything? Press STOP.

The red ⏹ STOP button: - Resets the cue list back to the first cue - Stops the show clock

It does not turn off lights or stop audio that's currently playing. To do that, you'd need a "blackout" cue or a "stop all audio" cue — these should be in the show if the designer included them.

Need to jump to a specific cue?

Tap any cue in the list to fire it directly. This skips ahead (or back) without using GO. Use this carefully — you might skip past a cue that was supposed to set up something for the cue you jumped to.

What to do when something goes wrong

Most problems aren't your fault. The right response depends on what's happening:

Connection dot goes red mid-show

Runtime crashed or the network died. You can't fire cues until it comes back. - Don't touch anything for 10 seconds — Runtime might auto-restart - If still red after 30 seconds, call your tech - Don't refresh the page repeatedly — that doesn't help

A cue fired but nothing happened

Probably a hardware problem (a Node went offline, a cable came loose, a fixture is dead). The show often can keep going — that one channel just won't work. - Note the cue number (mentally or write it down) so the tech can check after - If it's a critical cue (door unlock, key sound effect), press BACK and try GO again — sometimes a transient network issue - If it still fails, skip past it (tap the next cue in the list) and call your tech during a natural break

The wrong cue fired

You pressed GO too soon, or you accidentally tapped a cue you didn't mean to. - Don't panic. The audience usually doesn't notice as much as you think. - If it's recoverable: continue from where you are - If it's a major problem: press STOP to reset, then tap the cue you actually wanted

The whole show feels off

Maybe the cues are out of sync with what's happening on stage. This is usually a pacing issue, not a software issue. - Trust your sense of timing — the cue list is just a guide - If a moment isn't ready, wait. Don't fire just because the next cue is highlighted.

Total disaster — the show needs to stop

Press STOP. Walk to the front of the audience. Apologize. Have your tech reset.

Audiences are generally forgiving of technical issues if the team is calm and honest about it.

What you should NOT do

  • ❌ Don't refresh the page repeatedly. Each refresh re-syncs with Runtime; doesn't fix problems.
  • ❌ Don't restart the tablet. You'll lose 30 seconds and gain nothing.
  • ❌ Don't restart the Runtime PC. That's a tech-only operation. Will lose the show position.
  • ❌ Don't unplug things at the rack. Even if you "just want to try."
  • ❌ Don't leave the operator station. You are needed there for the entire show.

After the show

  • Press STOP to reset
  • Close the browser tab if you're done for the night
  • Tell your tech if anything strange happened — they'll check the log
  • The dashboard URL stays the same for tomorrow's show

Emergency contact

In a critical situation during a show:

Tech (on site): [name + extension/cell, written here by your installer]

IMMERSE support: support@immersecontrol.com (do not email during a show — they're not on-call)

What the colored badges mean (reference)

  • GO (green) — manual cue that does nothing on its own; just a beat
  • DMX (purple) — a lighting change
  • AUDIO (amber) — a sound starts playing
  • VIDEO (blue) — a video starts playing
  • GPIO (orange) — a relay/door/effect triggers
  • TC (amber) — the show clock starts/stops/jumps
  • WAIT (gray) — pauses for a duration before continuing
  • TRIGGER (amber) — fires a logic chain (designer-defined, can do multiple things)
  • FADE (cyan) — placeholder, holds for a duration
  • GROUP (gray) — container for related cues (visual only)

You don't need to understand every type to operate the show. Just press GO at the right moments.
